Presentation 2
Sampling and recruiting participants are basic steps in almost every research enterprise and are fundamental to determining the quality of the resulting research. This presentation will introduce sampling, recruitment and retention strategies that have been found to be successful when conducting research that includes or focuses on diverse ethnic minority populations. Specifically, the presentation will describe sampling procedures to recruit representative samples of diverse ethnic minority populations (e.g., multiple-step process including sampling communities to represent diversity in cultural and economic conditions). It will also describe recruitment and retention strategies that have successfully involved diverse participants in research (e.g., ethnic minority and low-income participants; recruiting participants through schools, using culturally attractive recruitment processes, conducting interviews in participants’ homes).
